Vet Tech of the Year Award – 2025 Nominations Open

Do you know an outstanding veterinary technician? The Alabama Veterinary Technician Association is now accepting nominations for the 2025 Alabama Veterinary Technician of the Year!

ELIGIBILITY

1. Nominee must be a licensed veterinary technician in the state of Alabama
2. Nominator must submit a brief essay (250-word maximum) detailing how this individual has provided leadership and contribution to the veterinary industry as well as outstanding achievement
3. Application must be submitted no later than 11:59pm CST on October 1, 2025
4. Application should include nominee’s full name, email address, and phone number. The AVTA executive board will review all application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Recipient will be announced at the AVTA Annual Conference.

VCA Animal Hospitals Scholarship – 2025 Nominations Are Open

A $500.00 scholarship for CE/professional development for an LVT is to be determined by the Alabama Veterinary Technician Association. The recipient must be an Alabama resident and a member of good standing in the AVTA. Deadline is September 1st, 2025. 

Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation Scholarship – 2025 Applications Open

DEADLINE APRIL 30, 2025 
The Alabama Veterinary Technician Association is proud to announce a sponsored scholarship from the Alabama Veterinary Medical Foundation (ALVMF)! This scholarship will be awarded to one outstanding AVTA member for the amount of $500. The scholarship may be used to continue professional growth in pursuit of CE, formal education (tuition, books, membership fees), or professional/work attire and accessories (scrubs, caps, stethoscopes etc.). 
The ALVMF Sponsored Scholarship criteria:
  • Applicants must be a current AVTA member (2025) and be in good standing with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners if licensed
    • Applicants must submit a brief essay (250-word maximum) detailing what he/she would use the scholarship funds for (pursuit of higher education, certifications, continuing education, veterinary related projects or enrichments e.g. community outreach/service etc.)
    • Applicants must submit two letters* of support from a DVM/VMD, credentialed technician, or professional reference such as college professor or colleague. *At least one of these letters must be from a veterinarian or credentialed technician
    • Applicants should include their full name, email address, and phone number

The AVTA executive board will review all applications. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A scholarship recipient will be selected and will be awarded $500 via check.

AAVSB VTNE Scholarship

This award is given to a Veterinary Technician/Nursing student from an AVMA-CVTEA or CVMA accredited veterinary technology/nursing program who is expected to graduate no later than June of the calendar year in which the award is being given. This award is presented to an individual who represents outstanding leadership skills, academic achievement, inclusivity, diversity, and an upstanding commitment to the veterinary profession.- AAVSB.org More information can be found here: https://www.aavsb.org/exam-services/vtne-awards/

AAVSB VTNE Diversity Award

This award will be given to a veterinary technician/nursing student from an AVMA-CVTEA or CVMA accredited veterinary technology/nursing program who is expected to graduate no later than June of the calendar year. This award will be presented to a minority student who has been traditionally underrepresented in the veterinary technician profession, inclusive of Black/African American, American Indians and Alaska Natives, Indigenous peoples, Asians and Pacific Islanders, Hispanic/Latinx, LGBTQ, and students with disabilities. https://www.aavsb.org/exam-services/vtne-awards/

NAVTA-Boehringer Ingelheim Scholarship

The scholarship funds may be used for payment of tuition fees, supplies for classes/labs, and textbooks. The scholarship funds will be mailed directly to the applicant’s school and/or program director. Dechra Scholarship

The AVMF is excited to partner with Dechra to offer five $2,000 dollar scholarships to eligible veterinary technician students. Dechra is a global specialist in veterinary pharmaceuticals and a global leader in veterinary endocrinology and topical dermatology, have a broad portfolio of analgesia, anesthetics and products for the treatment of pain, and are also recognized as innovators in other specializations such as the treatment of equine lameness and differentiated generics.

A total of five scholarships, each valued at $2,000, will be awarded eligible veterinary technicians.

The Zoetis Foundation/AVMF Veterinary Technician Student Scholarship

 

The Zoetis Foundation/AVMF Veterinary Technician Student Scholarship Program was developed to offset educational expenses related to attaining a veterinary education. The program focuses on addressing the issue of student debt and the need to foster diversity in the profession – issues that greatly impact the future of the veterinary profession.

AVMF and school leadership will identify outstanding veterinary technician students who can help address our changing world and the health, food, and welfare needs of the U.S. veterinary community.

The AAVSB is thrilled to continue the AAVSB Veterinary Technician National Examination® Celebrating Diversity Award. The next award recipient will be announced May 15th and will receive a VTNE exam voucher!
